I Hope You Learn

To the tune of Lee Ann Womack’s “I Hope You Dance

I hope your information source is not some in-law
Or CNN or PBS or worse, Rush Limbaugh.
May you always take this basic fact for granted,
That everything you get from them is slanted.
Always keep in mind that it’s their job to fool you,
And if you’re smart their tricks will only school you.
While curiosity fires within you still burn,
What others fall for’ll be your chance to learn.

I hope you learn.
I hope you learn.

When they push a line so hard they almost shout it,
And they all agree on something you should doubt it.
Doubting might mean taking chances, but they’re worth taking
You won’t make mistakes that you see others making.
Don’t let those false flag salesmen leave you bitter.
When you come close to signing up, reconsider,
And the road ahead presents a tempting but a wrong turn,
It won’t be for you the old hard way to learn.

I hope you learn.
I hope you learn.
I hope you learn.
I hope you learn.

I hope you never think you know everything worth knowing,
That you never fear your ignorance is showing,
And the road ahead presents a tempting but a wrong turn,
It won’t be for you the old hard way to learn.

Learn.
I hope you learn.
I hope you learn.
I hope you learn.
